Birmingham’s electric assist bike-share program launched Oct 14, 2015, transforming our city into a bike-friendly community, but ZypBike is coming to en end December 31, 2019.
“Zyp bike share allowed people to understand that bikes were a viable means of transportation and an amenity that would benefit the city,” says City Councilor Darrell O’Quinn.
Since ZypBike debuted, the city has added bike lanes and sharrows to make it easier for residents to travel by bicycle.
Birmingham is exploring options with several different vendors and hopes to have a new bike-share program, one that does not require a docking station, available by spring 2020.
