ZypBike Birmingham ends December 31st

Birmingham’s electric assist bike-share program launched Oct 14, 2015, transforming our city into a bike-friendly community, but ZypBike is coming to en end December 31, 2019.

“Zyp bike share allowed people to understand that bikes were a viable means of transportation and an amenity that would benefit the city,”  says City Councilor Darrell O’Quinn.

Since ZypBike debuted, the city has added bike lanes and sharrows to make it easier for residents to travel by bicycle.

Birmingham is exploring options with several different vendors and hopes to have a new bike-share program, one that does not require a docking station, available by spring 2020.

High Ore Line to Red Mountain Park Trail Opening!

 

The the High Ore Line to Red Mountain Park connection trail was built on land donated by Vulcan Materials and Wenonah Properties.  Freshwater Land Trust used a federal Tiger Grant to build the trail.

Starting in Midfield at the Jefferson County Western Health Center and runs three miles along an old railroad line where it ties into Red Mountain Park’s new entrance and parking lot on Venice Road. These trails provide a scenic safe area to walk, run or ride bicycles above and away from street traffic!
